100m users exposed in hacks of popular Chinese sites

Chinese Internet users are getting a taste of what users in the Western world have already become accustomed to: changing their online passwords and fearing that their credit card and other personal and financial information was stolen and will be misused by cyber crooks.

A number of internet forums, social networking and online gaming sites and others have apparently had their databases containing customers’ information compromised through a series of attacks and leaked online.

According to Caixin, the first breach was revealed by security company Qihoo 360, which discovered that a list containing over 6 million user IDs, passwords and email addresses belonging to the users of the China Software Developer Network (CSDN) was circulating online.

In the following days, user account information pilfered from many other sites was discovered, including those of users of social networking sites Renren and Kaixin001, microblog platform and Twitter competition Sina Weibo, online gaming sites 17173.com and duowan.com, and Internet forum Tianya. Box.net Adds Enterprise-Class Security-Access Controls to Cloud Storage

Cloud storage company Box.net unveiled a new set of tools and access controls to secure the data being stored on its servers.

The tools include the ability to limit who can view a file or folder, and tracks log-ins from multiple devices and various authentication options, Box.net said Dec. 15. These security options are intended to make it more secure for enterprises leery about employees storing corporate data on cloud servers without reliable data protections.

When users share any links on the service, they can decide to limit access to the file or folder to other people within a company domain or to collaborators within a specific folder, according to Box.net.

Asus Eyes Small Cities For Retail Expansion

Asus, under its retail expansion strategy, is targeting tier-1 and tier-2 cities to open its exclusive stores across the country. Under the same strategy, the company has opened an exclusive retail store in Gurgaon, and is planning to open one more before the end of 2011 to achieve its targeted figure of 10 stores in 2011. Asus has already set up eight exclusive stores in Bhillai, Goa, Thane, Jaipur, Calicut, Kolkata, and New Delhi (two locations).

The setting up of Gurgaon store is a part of the companys strategy to provide access to all the upcoming and latest technology to the customers in the Indian market including small cities and towns.
